Solar-powered aircraft makes 87-minute first flight



Wired reports that an aircraft known as Solar Impulse reached heights of 4,000 feet above land, during its 87-minute-long inaugural flight.

The craft is said to weigh 3,500 pounds, with a wingspan of 208 feet and a cruise speed between 40 and 45 mph.

In 2012, the plane will attempt to fly around the world nonstop. Follow the team via their Facebook Group.
